non chronological style?!

Postby mickna on Thu Jul 09, 2009 5:06 pm

Hello there,

it's nice to see that we can now customize the styles :)
However, after a (short) look I even can't find a solution for my problem. I think muvee reveal will always take one source movie after the other and don't mix them, isn't it so?

Since muvee is out I'm searching for a style which would be really create for music videos. I hope I can explain what I mean:

- You shoot a concert with three cameras (cam a, cam b, cam c)
- So every source movie (a,b,c) will be chronological from start of the concert to the end

Now if I wanna edit this via muvee it doesn't make any sense if movee will take the first source movie and cut it, then take the second one and then the third one. The result will look like:
concert start (cam a) -> concert (cam a) -> concert end (cam a) -> concert start (cam b) -> concert (cam b) -> and so on

Is it possible, that muvee will take all clips and take pieces (may some randomness) of every source movie nearly time-conform?
Like you place all three source movies in a timeline on top of each other and then cut between source a, b and c. So you have a cut with all three cameras and the concert will be chronological....

Hope you can understand what I mean?!
Thx,
mickna

Hi mickna,

I understand what you want. Reveal doesn't have exactly the feature you have in mind, though it is possible to approximate what you're looking for with some manual labour.

The media panel in Reveal ("photos and video") lets you split clips - either automatically at shot boundaries or manually wherever you please. So if your files a, b and c consist of multiple shots, you can first do "split video into clips" on each of them. Then you can rearrange the clips in the order you want and then make the muvee ... with any style you want.

Of course, that's exactly the kind of manual labour that is ripe for automation. I'll take you suggestion as a feature request and see if it can be at least be authored as a custom style.

Cheers,
-Kumar

Hi Kumar,

thx for your quick answer :)
Yeah you are right. Splitting and Rearranging the Clips is nearly the same as cutting normally. With this workaround there is no need to use muvee *smile*

It would be nice to see this kind of handling the clips in the future!
Thx & take care,
