Tired of the crashes, lack of bug fixes for Muvee Reveal X?

Postby Mirage618 on Fri Apr 06, 2012 2:01 am

Me too. But I have found an alternative. It doesn't have quite the polished interface as Muvee, but does the job. It also allows you to run music when you want, where you want, one of my big complaints. It also doesn't have what you could call preset "styles", but lots of effects that you can mix and match. Best of all, it's shareware. Buy the full version if you like, or use 99.9% of the features for free, your choice. I don't claim that it is perfect for everyone, and I have no affiliation to NCHS software. I'm just a user tired of waiting for fixes and updates that never seem to happen. Let's see how quickly this post is pulled.

The name of the software is "Photostage Slideshow Producer Pro"

I give up

Postby Mirage618 on Fri Apr 06, 2012 2:37 am

I haven't used Muvee Reveal X for months because it just doesn't do what I want it to. The lack of updates, fixes, etc is just to frustrating. But tonight I went to launch it and guess what? It crashes before it even starts! I get the interface background, then BAM! a message saying the program has stopped working. Ok I thought, maybe something has changed in my system, no big deal. I'll uninstall and reinstall. I have it backed up on a cd. So after removing cleaning the space etc. I reinstall. Guess what, crashes again. Can't even launch the thing to check for updates. Doesn't get far enough to save log files.

Guess that's it. I'm done.

Just curious if there was ever a fix found for this "crash on startup" problem?. I noticed one other member seems to have gotten it fixed using a download provided by one of the mods, but the download is not mentioned by name, nor is there a response from the mod in the thread. Still hanging around....

I fixed most of my crashes by

1) for my AMD Radeon HD 6700 (1 GB RAM), reverting back to the Catalyst 12.8 drivers. 12.10 didn't work. I haven't tried 13.1 yet.

2) first converting my source videos to .mov files (selecting PNG for the codec, which is lossless). (I wouldn't expect muvee to have full support for every file format, especially since it has to seek to random points in the video as part of its operations.) This can be done with XviD4PSP 6.0 or other programs. File size will be many times bigger, but it works. BTW, converting compressed files to AVI didn't work (either with Ut codec or uncompressed).

For the output, I don't recall any crashes, but I output to uncompressed AVI and encode with XviD4PSP 6.0 instead of muvee's encoder (which doesn't do very high quality for h.264, for example, and can't output 856x480, only 960x540.)

Another thing I found is that if the program crashes, try again. I've had it crash many times while analyzing source files the first time and complete successfully the second time. It picks up where it left off. I suspect it runs out of memory because I've gotten that message a number of times.

The only remaining crash I have that that doesn't work for is when I try to load more than a certain duration of video (or possibly more than a certain number of scenes). The cutoff is probably between 2 and 3 hours (or around 2000 scenes).

I also would not say that Photostage Slideshow Producer Pro is an alternative to muvee because it doesn't have any form of editing to the beat.

Hi Hyomil,

Can you forward us the logs when the program crashes when trying to load the videos so that we can check it? Kindly email the logs at patrick at muvee dot com. Thanks!
