A short intro to muvee

Postby Pete on Wed Jan 07, 2009 7:36 am

A little intro to muvee for those of you who don't know us...

The whole reason we formed muvee a few years ago is to give people a fast, easy and effective way to turn their photos and video into great-looking finished productions.

At the heart of all our products is a smart software engine that ‘knows’ a lot about how video professionals make their productions look great: in other words it contains a set of editing rules which, as far as possible, emulate the way a human video editor works. This approach dates back to late 2000 when we realized that many of those rules could be automated. We started working with video editors shortly after that and we still do, steadily improving and extending the software engine so that it’s able to make effective productions in all kinds of cases (e.g. for any music, for any mix of photos and video, etc).

Our goal isn’t to replace professional editors. A person with lots of experience who knows the ‘grammar of editing’ and is prepared to spend hours or days manually editing a production will always be able to do a better job than automatic software. But how many of us have that experience, or can afford to employ a professional editor? How many of us have the time to learn the rules ourselves, let alone the inclination to spend hours clicking & dragging away to implement every tiny editing decision (and then having to start from scratch if we decide we want a different style, faster pace, different music, or some other major change)?

That’s why we created the software and started muvee the company: to let everyone get great-looking results incredibly fast (seconds or minutes instead of hours or days). muvee is for the 99% of us who don’t have the time or inclination to do manual editing - or the spare cash to pay someone to edit our stuff for us.

muvee Reveal is our most advanced product, released earlier this year. Like all our products it’s very easy to use and will give you near-instant results: at its very simplest literally all you have to do is just load in your photos/video and click the Play button.

But it also allows a surprising amount of control and in most cases you can refine the automatic results by spending a little time: typically from a few minutes up to an hour or so, depending on how fussy you are. But the way you do that in muvee products is very different from traditional video editing software, and that’s why we've created some tutorials in this forum. I hope these explain some of the techniques and will help you get more out of Reveal and other muvee products. Above all, I hope it lets you get more fun out of your photos/video by helping you create productions that you’ll enjoy, and that you’ll enjoy showing your friends and family... and which they will enjoy watching (something that’s easy to lose sight of when you get deep into manual editing).

By the way, we call these productions ‘muvees’ (pronounced mew-vee). It’s kind of an abbreviation of ‘music video’. But muvees aren’t exactly music videos. They’re also not quite home movies, not quite slideshows... in fact they’re not exactly like anything that came before. That’s why we decided to give them a new name: ‘muvees’.

I have use Muvee 6.1.4.4 for about 2 years. I bought it at a demo at Sun City Palm Desert - Lets Compute Computer Club. Mine includes 33 styles. When Muvee did the demo they gave us 15 copies for our lab computers. I have taught a course in using Muvee on our lab computers.

is Muvee reveal an upgrade to what I have? Is there a Muvee7? If I want to teach the most current system what should I teach? Also can we get an upgrade to our lab computers?

You may want to contact me through my email.

Thanks. Bob

I love Muvee.

Thanks for your post Bob. We do appreciate all your support. I'll follow up with an email in response to your questions. muvee Reveal was redesigned and so the styles for muvee autoProducer are not compatible with muvee Reveal. The capabilities of muvee Reveal, with HD support as well as DVD quality full-screen preview, are more than what muvee autoProducer 6 offers. We have a product comparison chart located at http://www.muvee.com/en/products/.

Hello Pete,
I purchased Muvee Reveal back in December and really liked the finished product. But I kept getting program abends when trying to burn a DVD. I just downloaded the updated version of Reveal and I am very pleased. I can now burn DVDs with all the wonderful effects and controls I am allowed during it's use. It's a great product - thank you so much.
Best Regards,

Hi there,
I have downloaded a trial of both Reveal and autoProducer 6, and had a play with both.
I just want to say I really love your Muvee Applications - so so handy!!
However I've got a few questions...

Muvee Reveal is obvioulsy the new product - but it has so few styles compared to autoProducer 6, which is a real dissapointment. :(

I would totally purchase Reveal right now if it had all the styles that autoProducer 6 has...
but I really like all the styles of autoProducer 6 (which Reveal does not have) ... so it makes it a very hard decision to make...

- are you going to be moving the styles of autoProducer 6 into Reveal any time soon?

Hello All

I have tried the trial version of Muvee 8 and just love it. I have one question. I wish to purchase the actual program but am skeptic of downloading from the internet. I thought I saw the program at best buy at one time and would love to purchase it, can I purchase the actual disc on line with Muvee in order to have the software back up? Any information would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Yuki
