Partial uninstallation problems between 8 and X

Postby tribyoute on Tue Sep 20, 2011 6:30 pm

Hi there,

I am having trouble installing Reveal X. First, I am running Muvee on a Windows Virtual Machine, just so you know. It is running Vista. So I tried running Reveal X and it said it could not locate an MSI file that it needed. I'm assuming it was looking for the previous Reveal's MSI package to uninstall it. It then claimed it rolled back the installation. However, when I tried to run my previous Muvee Reveal (because I have a project that is due today), it said the application had been wiped out. When I tried to manually uninstall however it says it can't find the MSI. So now I am stuck. I can't uninstall Muvee Reveal 8. I can't install it because it says that a previous version of Reveal is already installed. I've tried manually uninstalling by searching C drive and Regedit for instances of "muvee" and deleting them but that hasn't worked. And muveecleaner for Vista won't work either because it says I need to uninstall Reveal first in order to run it.

So at this point I need to manually uninstall Reveal and then I will try to re-install Reveal 8 so I can at least get my project done, and after that I will attempt to re-install Reveal X.

I need to know where to look to uninstall my current half-installed version of Reveal 8 so that I can run cleaner and then reinstall a clean version of 8.

Can someone help me out asap? Thank you!

Hello Karyn,

You must uninstall both 'Muvee Reveal X' and 'Muvee Reveal Runtime' in the Add/Remove programs list through the Control Panel before re-installing Muvee Reveal 8 ;-)

If you wish to use 'muvee cleaner', firstly make sure to uninstall EVERYTHING RELATED to muvee Reveal, like "Reveal X", "Reveal Runtime", "Reveal DivX Edition", and of course all of the stylePacks. Then, run muvee cleaner in order to make a clean installation of Reveal 8.

Regards,
Francis Buiza

OK, here is my problem. I have been a longtime user of Muvee. I currently have Reveal 8. I got the special deal where you could upgrade to X so I purchased it. When I ran the upgrade MSI (for X), it botched the uninstallation of 8. Finally using some 3rd party software I forcibly uninstalled all traces of 8 (or so I thought). However, I have to reinstall 8 in order to upgrade to X (and risk the same thing happening again if the MSI package wasn't properly tested and is flawed, which it seems it is). Yet when I try to install 8, it says that a newer version is already installed!

So basically I am hosed and looking at completely wiping my OS because of this issue, since I don't know where else in regedit to look for the current version which it is somehow referencing. I will wipe the OS if I need to, because I really rely on Muvee, but I don't want to.

I'm kind of frustrated with this installation package. It had a path to a network drive that it said it needed as a source (and obviously couldn't find). That shouldn't be in a retail MSI package.

At this point I am wondering if I can simply get the full MSI of X so that it doesn't have to look for a version of 8 to install first. Can I send you my serial number for 8 so that you know I have it (I do, I really do), and then you can maybe send me the download link to the full version of X and it will just install it fresh?
